A group of Persian messengers to Sparta appears and asks the King Leonidas of Sparta submission on behalf of the Great King Xerxes. The Spartans offended by the behavior of the messengers, on the orders of their king, kill them thrown into a well. Leonidas is aware of the impending war and then went to the oracle ephors to explain to his plan to fight the Persians and to ask for approval. The Spartan King also leads the ritual offering gold as required by tradition. In reality the ephors have been corrupted by the Persians and then interpret the prophecies in order to stop Leonidas. The oracle then orders the king to wait until the feast of Carneia before the war ...
