Shinichi Kudo is a high school boy of sixteen (seventeen in the series) and, despite his young age, is a skilled investigator who often works with police, solving cases very intricate. A big fan of Sherlock Holmes, dreams of emulating the company and become the "Sherlock Holmes of the third millennium." One day, having gone with his childhood friend Ran Mouri to an amusement park, witnessed a bloody murder case on a roller coaster, finally managed to solve it and find the culprit. Before returning home to attend a business exchange between two suspicious men dressed all in black, members of a mysterious " criminal organization." Taken from what was happening before his eyes, Shinichi does not notice the arrival of another behind him, and ends up being discovered and captured, being an inconvenient witness, the two men decide to kill him by administering a poison called experimental Apotoxin-4869 (APTX 4869) that instead of killing him, the younger than 10 years.
